Symphonic – 1.3

March 9th, 2008

Symphonic

It’s been a couple years since Symphonic received an update. The winds, they are a-changin’.

This is quick maintenance update to Symphonic. Here’s what’s new:

- New (and working) update system. It’s now much more obvious when there is an update.
- Links to user manual fixed
- Cleaned up some code

Head on over to [the Symphonic page](http://mindquirk.com/apps/symphonic/) to download it.

Wonderful stuff. Works like a charm, exactly what I need.
Thank you!

Ben

I love symphonic! Definitely one of my favorite widgets, and I don’t have that many.

My only ever complaint about it – I really wish there were a way to have it play a song from within the currently playing playlist, since if I use it otherwise it just chooses the next song from within my library. In my iTunes, I have a “favorites” type playlist, and when I’m shuffling through it, sometimes I want to hear a certain song in it, and I wish I could use symphonic to play it and then continue in that same playlist. Maybe a “clocks in ?pl favorites” command or something? Maybe in a future update? Pretty please?

Either way, I still love the widget. Keep up the great work!

I couldn’t get onto it

Chris

I came to this page thinking exactly what Ben (above) wrote. I was thinking a syntax more like this:

?pl [playlist] / [song] – to move to new playlist
?pl / [song] – to stay in current playlist

But perhaps Ben’s makes more sense (just anything before “?pl” is the song, anything after is the playlist):

[song] ?pl [playlist] -typical entry
[song] ?pl -could be shorthand for current playlist

Either way, just agreeing to the potential usefulness of that feature.

Random afterthought, toggle shuffle/random:

?rand, ?shuf

Chris

Ew. Sorry, my line breaks showed up weird above.

I agree with Ben and Chris. The widget is nice as it is, but it’s not much use to me until I can search within a particular playlist.

Ben

I’m so glad I’m not the only one thinking what I thought. Chris’s suggestion of “[song] ?pl [playlist]” or that it automatically could just stay within the playlist is perfect. I really wish I could use symphonic more, but it can’t be too useful without something like this.

Please mindquirk guys!

Is a good website for lyrics. Maybe you can use that.

Though I believe I’ve said this before… this widget is still little use to me until it can add a song to the next spot in the Party Shuffle (bonus points if it can then start playing it immediately). Similar to the play-song-from-same-playlist request, only for the Party Shuffle instead, since I’m a heavy user of it.

iTunes itself has this functionality by right-clicking on any song… if only Symphonic could do it, it would be a priceless tool.

Actually, a quick follow-up on that last comment – I just figured out an obvious, quick, easy fix for my request. Set “upcoming songs” in Party Shuffle to zero, and “boom”, end-of-Party-Shuffle is next song. Not perfect, obviously, and I still wish it could start playing the song in question automatically… but it’s more than enough to make the widget worthwhile for me! ^^

Ben

Great call on that last suggestion cnet. Thanks a lot – I think I’ll start doing that now!

But still – hopefully we can fully implement some of these other features!

Can’t remember if I asked before.
Can you an a command that adds it next in the playlist.

Like # yellow submarine
to play yellow submarine next?

By I use and enjoy Harmonic and Symphonic. thanks,

tim

This (and Harmony) is such an awesome app… widget!

Keep on doing this kind of stuff, it really beefs up my (and probably every mac user’s) everyday mac-experience!

Peace-out,
Lukas :)
