Xbox Live Friends 4

June 27th, 2008

It’s been ages since the last release, but we have been hard at work on Xbox Live Friends 4.

This version is miles better than any of the previous versions, and miles better than anything else like it on the Mac.

Head over to [the Xbox Live Friends site](http://mindquirk.com/xlf) and check out screenshots, screencasts, and then download it!

**Bonus**: Since Xbox Live Friends now supports Growl, we’ve made an Xbox 360-themed Growl Style which you can [download here](http://mindquirk.com/downloads/xlf_growlstyle.zip).

Awesome! I love it guys, nice work! :D

Just this discovered this amazing application.

Is there anyway to view your own gamer card/achievements in this application? It works great for all my friends, but not my own information. I think it would very useful if I can quickly lookup my own achievements from this application.

Keep up the great work! :)

I have to agree with Mark, not being able to look at your own details is a big missing detail.

But the actual interface and everything is great. Bit slow though, but that might have to do with my internet connection and not your app.

Program works great when it isn’t crashing. It has been over a month since release and it still crashes several times an hour. I am very much looking forward to the next release without this major bug.

Besides that the program is awesome and is the best out there for the Mac.

I just found out about this handy tool via this weeks “bits und so” podcast (http://www.bitsundso.de/), a german IT-related show.
Your program has been picked as one of the teams favorite apps there. Great work!

P.S.: Please add an option to lookup your own achievement information. An option to check all of your friends latest achievements would be cool, too. Or something like “inform me when he’s got this achievement”.

Hey, I was wondering if there was any way you could get stats for some of the CoD series like you do the halo ranking system? Just wondering…

Hey I was very excited about this Mac Xbox 360 program but just notice that 4.0 doesn’t seem to work with Max OS 10.4. Versiontracker shows that version 3.0.4 will work with Moc OS 10.4 but this site doesn’t seem to be hosting the link. Can anyone help me get a copy of Xbox Live Friends 3.0.4? I would really appreciate it.

The old versions no longer work, so unfortunately you will have to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard to use Xbox Live Friends.

First and foremost — i’ve been looking for a long time for this app and have been using MacLive for a while with many disappointments. Yours is the best and should be an industry standard. I just have 2 suggestions that would make me the happiest gamer to manage this app.

  1. More importantly, a way to organize my list of friends into customized groups. This would allow me to place people in game categories as to what game I met them in so I remember who they are or other groups. Sounds kinda lame when I read it out loud, but organizing my list of 50 people would help out so much!

  2. Less important, but great if it could be added. A way to see what my status looks like when I’m using this app. I’d be curious to see what I look when I browse XBox Live.

  3. Does anyone know of any apps like this for a windows computer? I use one for windows machine at work and would love to be able to communicate to gamers just like this beauty of an app can, but I can’t seem to find a windows app.

Matt

This is a very nice utility, better than what I could find when I was using a Windows PC. However I get frequent crashes, especially when anything related to Xbox Live messages occurs. Are there updates planned soon, or is there any diagnostic logging I can supply that might help locate the issues?

XBList on Windows is far superior. This is better than MacLive, but its slow and crashes a lot. Also once you click out of the app, click the icon in the dock doesnt bring up the friends list again. I have to get it back from the menu bar which is pretty annoying.

brian

hey so i have a problem with mine seems to always quit unexpectedly and freeze a lot what should i do?

Ive noticed I can not log in, and it crashes after upgrading to the Safari 4 Beta. Do you plan on supporting the final Safari 4 release?

Cool app, but mine crashes ALL the time and I’ve just downloaded it.
Ive re installed too but same problem.
I also agree that viewing own stats would be cool.
The growl integration is real cool too.

Quote”cody-Hey, I was wondering if there was any way you could get stats for some of the CoD series like you do the halo ranking system? Just wondering…”
-cant see it happening as cod doesn’t have an online data base of infinite knowledge/ stats like halo, there would be nothing to get info from.

Ive also been trying out an app that essentially does the same thing called “Friendz”. some people might wanna check that out.
It does all the same things bur the achievements stats but It doesn’t crash all the time.
Yours looks much sleeker though, much more professional.

Another problem i have just noticed/ remembered is sometimes , the friends list doesn’t show everyone, just like 3-4 people.
i think it is just it updating though.

Hope you can fix the crashing problem, is there an update coming in the near future?
Thanks again for making the app, and hats off to ya =]

Nice app – you should open source it on sourceforge, since it needs updating, and it has been a long time since the last.

Sam

Mine also crashes on startup – it doesn’t even get a chance to ask me for my login info.

Sam

I just got an email from Wil:

Sam,

The issue with the application has to do with the large Xbox.com update that was done in the last few days. This will be fixed as soon as possible, but unfortunately I am out of town for the next few days so I will not be able to get to it until next week at the earliest.

Apologies,
Wil

Brandon

If your doing a new update to fix the latest update to Xbox.com. I’d like to see Avatars in the gamerscore view.

Sam

The problem has been fixed! Download the newest version at the Xbox Live Friends Page.

Bob t.

Still doesn’t work.
it just automatically goes to signing in, gives me no option to log in at all. then just sits there , with everything whited out.
Ive re downloaded it several times, and tried it on other peoples macs who have never had the app before, including someones 1 day old mbp.
=/

Alick

Has been working fine since last week; XBLF starts and immediately quits and I get an error report. Any ideas ? XBLF update perhaps ?

Sam

I’ve got the same problem as Alick.

Sean

I am currently having the same issue as Sam & Alick, starts, than immediately quits out, i do have snow leopard installed, so im thinking that might be an issue, no clue at the moment though

Having the same problem here with Snow Leopard, I hope there’s a solution coming soon. Please let us know any update. Thanks.

Kaelan

I just downloaded this and it starts up fine. The problem is that it doesn’t ask me for my gamertag or anything like that, so I don’t see how its supposed to find my friends information.. any updates coming?

shannon

@Kaelan

I have the same issue. Downloaded from mindquirk.com on Dec 27, 2009 and upon launching the app I am never prompted for sign in credentials. Subsequently, all the controls within the app itself are disabled. Too bad, looks like a great app!

I downloaded it, and launched it, and for about a minute it worked wonderfully. Then it crashed, and now refuses to launch again. Not sure what it did outside of the .app that is making it crash so, but re-downloading the .app didn’t solve the problem, so it did something.

Oh, and I’m on Snow Leopard, as of now latest update of 10.6.4

One more thing, I didn’t get the option to log in either, however it must do something with my cookies (or Silverlight?) because it logged me in automatically (I do have this set on the Xbox.com website)
